Prudent Heart Living

Managing different levels of stress, learning about nutrition and knowing how to fuel your body along with prudent heart living, should not require a college degree. And you shouldn’t spend countless hours online searching for answers.

Partnering up WITH your goals

Aside from accountability, running with a training partner can increase endurance and have major psychological benefits, towards reaching your running goals.

My Mission, My Promise

Nothing is more important and satisfying than to help others achieve a level of health they are desiring to achieve. We all know there are no certainties in life, but we can make decisions that can strongly impact our current state of living. I believe this and I can help you get there.

Your goals, wants, and needs towards your fitness journey will always be my goals, wants, and needs for you.

At age 8, my Son ran his first 5K race in Philadelphia at the Rocky Balboa Run. I trained him regularly. He has run a handful of 5Ks since then. This past November/2023 my Son and I ran our 3rd Rocky Run, together.

Most of the time the number one obstacle we face in achieving our goals is ourselves. Showing up on the first day to start your journey to a healthy and rewarding life, is all you need to get started.

conquer YOU!

Are your priorities getting in the way of optimal health?

When we experience a leaky roof in our homes, or our cellphones fail to charge, or maybe the undercarriage of our car is making a strange noise, what would our typical response be? Most of us will ensure these things are taken care of and fixed. Some of us may already have subscribed to a service protection plan, to minimize the cost of repair or replacement. Which will make taking care of these problems a lot easier.

These mechanical, structural mediums and efficiencies like a cell phone do make life easier for us. And taking care of these things is paramount, but how many of us practice the same measure of protection or urgency when it comes to our health?

I love my home, I appreciate my car, and having a cell phone is great. But in the grand scheme, these things would not add one second to our longevity or improve our health. And not taking the same priority approach to our health as we do to other aspects of our lives, can cost us greatly. We may keep up with our yearly physicals and dental check-ups, and make sure our families have adequate food in our pantries for nourishment, but this is not always enough. There is more we could do.

My reason for maintaining a healthy lifestyle became more evident once my wife and I started having children. The idea of not being around for my family troubles me greatly. But this is only half of my health equation. Understanding how our organs are responsible for our health, is the other half.

How well do we know our organs?

Whether we are awake or asleep. Tired or strong. Sad or happy. Twenty-four hours a day seven days a week until you take your last living breath, our internal organs are working non-stop for us. Keeping us alive with countless biological processes, performed every second of the day. Not to mention our bodies replace about 330 billion cells daily. That's more than 3.8 million new cells created every second, according to a study published in Science Alert. A link to this study is attached, below. What an amazing biological environment our bodies house. Our organs do their work without us worrying or thinking about it. This makes me grateful beyond measure. How grateful would you feel if a highly trained security guard provided 24-hour protection to your home and family, and it didn’t cost a penny? All the security guard would ask for is just to be fed three times a day. That’s it. You would probably find ways to show your appreciation for such a bargain and feed this security guard and ask him to take regular breaks. Well, my friends, your organs are guarding your life. And all your organs need from you is a little nutritional and fitness help no matter your age.

We all know people who hardly exercise and have eaten poorly since entering their twenties. Some probably smoked cigarettes, never had a good sleep regimen, and still lived to be 60, 70 even 75 years old! Do not feel comfortable with this realistic statistic, because there is a high price to pay when letting our body live without taking care of it. Even if you live beyond. 65. A high percentage of these people live with ailments and disabilities. They are taking anywhere from two to half dozen prescribed medications to help them live (and not thrive). Living their days with aches and pains, high blood pressure, or diabetes—just to name a few ailments. Just imagine if a slight tweak would have taken place with their health and fitness approaches in their twenties. And continued into their later years of life? A very high probability that they would have experienced a life with minimal aches and pains, with very little medication use, and good mobility well into their 80s and possibly 90s. I witnessed this first-hand as a Paramedic.

Google degrees are not that valid.

We often wait until our bodies speak to us in ways we don't want them to, in order to change our health status, in the form of illness or disease. When this happens, we take a trip to our doctor only to be told what we don’t want to hear. After this visit and armed with bad health news, we go home and log onto our computers. We do our own Google and WebMD searches--cross reference other medical websites and print all the data we think is relevant to our situation--we print so much data that we have to put it into a folder, so we can properly present it on our next visit to the doctor. During the visit, your doctor dismisses your Google Medical Degree and sends you home with a prescription for cholesterol meds and another prescription to see a nutritionist because you just couldn't do it on your own.

There are certainly no guarantees in life, but this should not stop us from trying to live a healthy life.  Find yourself a good Fitness Coach, and research meal regimens you can stick with and enjoy. It doesn't have to be complicated and you don't need to count calories. Find continuing educational courses in your local community colleges and learn about the human body and nutrition. Many colleges offer Health & Wellness programs in their continuing education programs. Just a little knowledge of how your body works can anchor a desire to live a better life for yourself, for years to come. Join social health groups whether online or in person with similar health goals and interests. Building communal relationships around an exercise or group or environment makes the whole process contagious! As noted recently in an  MIT study on exercise being contagious.  A link to this study is attached.

Just say yes to a different way of living.
